Bowser Castle 4 (クッパキャッスル4 Kuppa Kyassuru 4?, Bowser Castle 4) is the fourth and final course out of the four Bowser Castles in Mario Kart: Super Circuit. It is the third course in the Star Cup. As with its fellow Bowser Castle courses, this track includes dangerous jumps over death-defying lava, Thwomps that will squash the drivers, and Mechakoopas that are spread around the end of the course. This makes this course probably known to be the hardest Bowser Castle in the game. A red generator with the Koopa King's symbol can be seen in the background when the racers face north.

Layout[]

Its resemblance to Bowser Castle 1 is more so than in Bowser Castle 2 and Bowser Castle 3. At the beginning of the course, there's a square of lava that spews out fire. It demands time, and if a hop fails then you're heading for the lava. One of the jumps is crucial, since the path that the racers take crosses an earlier section of road that they drove on; if they fail, they will be forced to go back. The course is throttled by moving Thwomps, and near the end, there are Mechakoopas.

Bowser Castle 4 makes its classic course debut as a course in the Bowser Tour, now having its name formatted GBA Bowser Castle 4, and is therefore the first Special Cup course from Mario Kart: Super Circuit to return in another Mario Kart game, as Lakeside Park. Bowser Castle 4's visuals have been updated, and it is now depicted as a ruined castle situated in a lava lake bordered by two volcanos. The lava now flows into a chasm in the middle. A large throne area has been placed within the unreachable area close to the southern edge. As with the other SNES and GBA courses, the course has elevation in this game. It still maintains a large portion of its layout, but some of the turns are simplified, with some of those having been turned into curved bends akin to most courses in Mario Kart 64, the section with the lava holes has fewer holes, and all the holes have ramps for jump boost opportunities. The section involving jumping between platforms has ben streamlined as well. New obstacles and elements have been put into the course, replacing the Mechakoopa robots in the original. One example is an iron ball dispenser that drops metallic balls similar to the steel spheres that Bowser himself has used in many of his fights in the platformers. The area with this replaces a split path, which has been moved to the very end of the course and whose paths now have a Glider section each.

The course is also a single lap. The starting line has a gate just like all the other courses, with said gate coming in the form of two pillars that hold up a banner with the words MARIO KART on it in red and a checkerboard border. The gate that denotes the second section comes after the iron balls where the original split path was, taking the form of an archway with a sign that has some stars on it, akin to the gates that mark the start of the second and final section in the Wuhu Island Loop from Mario Kart 7.
