World 1 is the first world found in New Super Mario Bros.
It can be found in the Mushroom Kingdom. It appears to be in a grassy area, with weak enemies such as Goombas, Cheep-Cheeps and Koopa Troopas. Like all the other fortresses, Bowser Jr. is the boss. Unusually, Bowser is the boss in this area, despite being the antagonist.

The levels don't include much, but five levels and a secret level, along with the fortress and castle. The levels include:
- World 1-1
- World 1-2
- World 1-3
- World 1-Fortress
- World 1-4
- World 1-5
- World 1-A (Can be unlocked via five Star Coins)
- World 1-Castle
