Not to be confused with Fire, a different fireball enemy encountered in 100m of Donkey Kong and its reissues.

Fireballs are small flame enemies with a pair of dotted eyes. They are from the Donkey Kong series, and make their overall debut in the Donkey Kong arcade game. They strongly resemble Podoboos from the Mario franchise.

Appearances[]

Donkey Kong[]

In 25m and 50m, Fireballs emerge from the Oil Drums and then chase after Mario, although they have short attention spans. In the former level, they only emerge when the Oil Drum is hit by a blue barrel. Fireballs can climb ladders, no matter if they are broken or fixed, but cannot reverse directions during the climb. They cannot fall from ledges or cross gaps. Eventually, they migrate to the top of the level. If Mario jumps over a Fireball, he receives points, but the only way to destroy them is with a hammer. Picking up a hammer causes the Fireballs to turn blue. In 75m, two Fireballs patrol a set of platforms.

Donkey Kong 64[]

Fireballs return as enemies in a port of the Donkey Kong arcade game found in Frantic Factory. As usual, they serve as hazards in order to deter Jumpman from getting up to Donkey Kong.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Fireballs are obstacles featured on the 75m stage, which was introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Here, it has an 8-bit appearance, different than in the original Donkey Kong. If any fighter touches a Fireball, they take minor damage, unless they are under the effects of invincibility.

An official screenshot shows Luigi posing next to a Fireball, which he points at.
