Rocket Start (Mario Kart 8)

The green light on the Start Signal in Mario Kart 8.

The Start Signal is an item that only Lakitu can use at the start of the race/battle in the Mario Kart series. The signal also provides the Pre-race Countdown Timer. This device has three light bulbs and each one of them tells the player when the race or battle starts. The signal's sequence goes from top to bottom in the first three games (left to right since Mario Kart: Double Dash!!). If the first two or three lights of the signal is red or yellow (depending on which game is being played), the engine must be started and prepared for the Rocket Start technique. When the signal turns green, that means GO! The design of the item varies depending on which Mario Kart game is played. For strange reasons, the Start Signal doesn't appear in Mario Kart DS. In addition to the main games, the signal also appeared in three Mario Golf games to signal the start of Speed Golf.
