"You're the ones looking for the Pure Heart, squirple? Hm! Cuter than I thought! ♡"
—Squirps, Chapter 4-1

Prince Squirps Korogaline Squirpina (also known as Squirps) is a character that appears in Chapter 4 of the game Super Paper Mario.

History[]

After pointing Tippi at the TV to reveal the hidden spaceship that is sending the S.O.S signals, the spacecraft opens and inside it is Squirps, who seems to have been asleep. He assumes that Tippi and Mario ( or if the player is playing as another character Peach or Bowser) is looking for the Pure Heart. Tippi questions if he is allied with Count Bleck, in which he firmly denies, for he is opposed to "scary faces" and introduces himself as Squirps, their new captain. He tells Mario and co. that the only way they can get to the Pure Heart is if they work together with him. Tippi is skeptical of this, which annoys Squirps, who scolds them and tells them that they are "space grunts" now, and that they must "heed the captain". The only response that can be given to him is either "Yes sir!" or "Gotcha!". Tippi, who is still skeptical, consults with Mario, Peach or Bowser about following Squirps who she's not sure that they can trust. The heros reassure Tippi that Squirps can be trusted, and that they should at least try, into which Tippi reluctantly gives in. It is then revealed that Squirps can create a warp hole directly to the Pure Heart, but the player must hold A Button until the player is sure that he has built enough power to get there. No matter how long the player holds the button, it will always fail, in which Mario and co. must take the long way to the Pure Heart. Squirps informs them that if they must take the long route, they should press Two Button to use his "squirt beam" to damage enemies. After travelling through space for a little while, the party will reach the Star Block and finish Chapter 4-1.

In Chapter 4-2, they arrive on a tiny planet, Planet Blobule. Tippi questions Squirps once again, wondering if he really knows where they're going. Squirps, to the suprise of everyone, reveals that he "forgot" where the entrance to the Space Byway is. After this brief moment, Squirps suddenly exclaims. Tippi asks if he has remembered the location, to which he replies that he still doesn't remember, but that he has to use the restroom. Squirps runs off to a restroom stall nearby, however, it is occupied by a Pixl who refuses to come out because he does not have any toilet paper. Squirps, to no avail, insists that the Pixl leave the restroom because he's about to have an accident. Squirps refused to move, so Mario and co. must continue their journey without Squirps so that they can find toilet paper for the Pixl. After returning with something to suffice as toilet paper, the Pixl, who is named Fleep, exits the restroom and Squirps rushes in. Fleep is pleased with the heros and joins Mario's party, and once Squirps is done relieving himself, the player can use Fleep's power to obtain a key, which they can use to unlock the door that leads to the Star Block, which ends Chapter 4-2.

In Chapter 4-3, Mario and his party head to the Space Bypass. Mario and co. are suspicious of Squirps, who somehow knew the secret route to the Whoa Zone, Squirps mentions that some call it the "Space Graveyard", for it's complicated maze that when you go in, you won't make it out. Squirps' stomach growls loudly, but he dismissed it and they continue their journey. After Fleep uncovers the X mark, a Space Gate suddenly appears with a peculiar hole that is the exact shape of Squirps. He asks to be "twisted" into the hole, and if you choose to do so, the Space Gate's door appears and Mario and co. are able to continue to the next area, in which they find another Space Gate that has two holes. Mario (or if the palyer is playing as a different character, Peach or Bowser) "squishes" Squirps into the hole, but the Space Gate's door will not appear. Squirps now refuses to get out of the hole and insists Mario and co. bring him something "delicious". A sign nearby hints that the "delicious" thing is something "sweet" that starts with "cho" and ends with "late". After going through the warp hole next to the sign, and then the one in the top right corner of the next area, the party finds a store called Twinkle Mart, to which they're the first customers due to the shop's poor location in the middle of space. The party must buy a Sweet Choco-bar to satisfy Squirps' desires. The crew then returns to Squirps, who at first refuses to eat the chocolate bar, and after some convincing, reluctantly does so. He ends up loving the chocolate bar, going as far to describe it as "pure cocoa love". His passionate love for the chocolate creates an exact replica of Squirps, who then fits into the other shape in the Space Gate to create a door to the next area, which contains the Star Block to end Chapter 4-3.

In Chapter 4-4, they arrive at the Whoa Zone, where Squirps runs ahead because he knows the way, leaving the party, who doesn't, behind. Tippi is still doubting him at this point, but they continue on into the maze. After successfully navigating their way to the end, they meet up with Squirps who was getting bored waiting for them. He goes to show them to the Pure Heart, but then Mr. L interrupts and kicks Squirps out so that he can defeat the heros. After Mario and co. defeat Mr. L, Squirps dashes back into the room to help them defeat Mr. L's Brobot. After they defeat Brobot, Mr. L promptly runs off back to Castle Bleck. Squirps leads the party into the inner room of the maze, complete with a golden statue of Squirpina XIV. He refers to her as "mother" and reveals to Mario and co. that he is a prince, and that the Whoa Zone was created to protect the Pure Heart from all evil and that only the heros in the Light Prognosticus could complete it (hence why Mr. L was able to, as Luigi is one of the four heros). Squirps then bestows the fifth Pure Heart to the heros, and he is not seen again for the remainder of the game. It's unknown what happens to him after the players finish Chapter 4-4, but the storyline dialogue states that he suddenly feels tired, and he lays down in front of the statue of his mother and closes his eyes. After this final line, the flashback with Timpani and Blumiere begins, and the chapter is finished.
