Super Mario

Scarecrow is an object in Super Mario Odyssey.

Description[]

A scarecrow resembles a regular scarecrow, although it lacks any facial features. It wears white gloves and a light blue vest.

Whenever Mario throws Cappy onto a Scarecrow, it rotates and opens a doorway to a sub-area with two Power Moons; a Timer Challenge is activated, requiring Mario to reach a Power Moon in a limited amount of time on an assortment of platforms. However, he is not assisted by Cappy, as he is clinging onto the scarecrow after being thrown onto it.

In Super Mario Odyssey[]

Scarecrows appear in all kingdoms except the Cloud Kingdom and Ruined Kingdom. If Mario jumps on the scarecrow while Cappy is on it, he returns to Mario and negates whatever effect the scarecrow had. The scarecrow's effect can also be negated if either Mario goes too far away from it or if time runs out on the Timer Challenge.

Trivia[]

  • The sub-areas opened by scarecrows are similar to some of the secret courses in Super Mario Sunshine, where Mario is separated from his companion, F.L.U.D.D., and has to rely on his own maneuvers to collect the Shine Sprite at the end. A difference is that in Super Mario Odyssey, Mario always has to enter an area without F.L.U.D.D., but in Super Mario Sunshine, after collecting the Shine Sprite at the end of a secret course, Mario can re-enter there with F.L.U.D.D.
