Red Chomps are a variant of Chain Chomp which first appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

In the Paper Mario series[]

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]

Red Chomps are first encountered in the Glitz Pit. Here, two of them appear under the name of Chomp Country, whom Mario has to fight to advance closer to the finals. If Mario took the poisoned cake just before the battle, he must fight Chomp Country alone without his partners. More Red Chomps can be fought in the Pit of 100 Trials.

Super Paper Mario[]

Red Chomps are only encountered at Castle Bleck. Their stats have been improved from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Red Chomps attack by trying to bite at Mario or a party member. Because Red Chomps have a high Defense rating of 8, the best way to take them out is by using the defense-piercing Cudge or Boomer.

In Mario Party 7[]

A Red Chomp resides at Pyramid Park. For ten coins it allows a character to hit three Dice Blocks to ride it around the board, instead of one Dice Block like a regular Chain Chomp. Whoever is hit by the Red Chomp along the way loses a Star, which is given to whoever is riding the Red Chomp.
