The P-Wing is an item in Super Mario Bros. 3 that one can be obtain from Princess Peach after ridding a world from the Koopalings' power or from a white toad house. It enables Mario or Luigi to fly in the air for an unlimited amount of time during one level. Once the level is over, they lose the ability and only have the basic Super Leaf powers. Also, the power is lost if they are hit. If either Mario or Luigi happens to get the Tanooki Suit while still under the effect of the P-Wing, they will change into the Tanooki Suit but the P-Wing effect will still be active. In the original NES version of Super Mario Bros. 3, if you manage to complete the game and restart without hitting Reset, you can start a whole new game with multiple P-Wings as bonus power-ups.
In Super Mario 3D Land, they are found in a gold block with a P-Wing on it after losing 10 lives in a Normal Mode level. Using it will take you immediately to the end of a level.
