Octoombas, also known as Electrogoombas or Octogoombas, are enemies from Super Mario Galaxy. They are of similar form to a Goomba, however they do not have bodies. It is fairly common to find them in most galaxies. Their main attack is by headbutting Mario. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, they evolved, and are also capable of shooting rocks.
They appear in several sub-species. A pink Octoomba will first try to run away from Mario, but then spit rocks at him if he ventures too close. A grey Octoomba cannot move, but it can shoot projectiles at Mario. It is much bigger than a normal Octoomba and has the ability to shoot fire at Mario. A green one will fire two projectiles if confronted.
They first appear in the Good Egg Galaxy. They also appear in the Honeyhive Galaxy and the Gold Leaf Galaxy. They can often be found before Bosses. They appear frequently in the two Super Mario Galaxy games, more common in appearance than Goombas in some galaxies.
Octogoombas return in Super Mario 3D World mainly on the Super Galaxy level of Super Mario 3D World. Unlike the past games, Octogoombas can't be jumped on, and must be ground pounded. They can now spit out three iron balls that explode on contact. However, given they are invincible to regular attacks, they can still be taken out with a Starman or a Mega Mushroom.
