A Jump Block, also known as a Music Block, a Note Block or a ♪ Block, is a type of bouncy block that helps Mario and Luigi achieve extremely high jumps. They first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3, then in Super Mario World. In Super Mario Bros. 3, the Jump Blocks can be used to jump high (by pressing the jump button as the player is launched upward) and occasionally hold a power-up or Star for the player if he or she bounces on it or hits it like an Exclamation Block. In Super Mario World, they serve the same purpose.

Also in Super Mario Bros. 3, there is a special variety of pink Jump Blocks hidden in some courses that catapult Mario or Luigi to Coin Heaven, where many coins and sometimes a 1-Up Mushroom (accessible by flying with Raccoon Mario) cane found. Two of the e-Reader card levels in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 consist entirely of Jump Blocks: 06: Magical Note Blocks and 11: Onpu Block de Athletic!. Jump Blocks are in the Mario Party 5 mini-game Bound of Music, where each player has to jump and hit the most Jump Blocks. However, the Jump Blocks are invisible. These blocks also appear in Mario Superstar Baseball in the Peach's Castle field. If a baseball bounces on top of it, the batter may score a homerun. These blocks also appear in the TV series, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, where some have a ♫ instead of a ♪. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, there are blocks that behave the same but appears different called White-Green Checkered Blocks. The Jump Blocks later appear in Super Mario 3D Land (making their first appearance in a 3D Mario platformer game), where they serve the same purpose. They also make musical sounds and notes appear when jumped on. Rainbow Jump Blocks also appear, and they still send Mario to a Coin Heaven area. Unreachable Jump Blocks appear in Music Park in Mario Kart 7. Super Mario World has a few unused Jump Blocks, including one that bounces Mario on all sides.
