Mario under the effect of Invincibility Leaf

The Invincibility Leaf is a power-up featured in Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario 3D World. When used, it grants the player the effects of a normal Raccoon/Tanooki suit, and permanent invincibility in the level that it is used in. Once the level is completed with one, the player will be reverted to Raccoon/Tanooki form. However, it does not have every effect that a starman possesses, such as no added speed, no added jump velocity, and no point buildup when defeating enemies. Also, like the starman, it does not grant the player invincibility from falling into pits, touching poisonous water, or lava.

Appearances

Super Mario 3D Land

The leaf only appears after Mario loses five lives in a level that is not already completed. It does not appear when re-visiting a completed level or a Special World level. This means Luigi cannot obtain it unless the player skipped any levels in the normal worlds (for example, by using a Warp Zone). Touching it will give Mario a shining white and golden Tanooki Suit, making him White Tanooki Mario, and it will make him invincible, as the Star also does, but the invincibility lasts for the entire level.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

The leaf has the same effect as it did in Super Mario 3D Land. Instead of the Raccoon Suit, Mario and Luigi get a white and golden outfit. The leaf cannot be replaced by any other items.

Super Mario 3D World

Invincibility Leafs return in Super Mario 3D World where they appear after a player has lost on a certain level a certain amount of times.
