Super Mario Mario & Luigi

Ice Bros. are a sub-species of Koopa Troopa that debuted in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are very similar to Hammer Bros., except that they are cyan colored and that they throw ice balls instead of the usual hammers. Ice Bros. are the exact opposite of the Fire Bros., when the player touches one of their icy projectiles, he is injured and frozen in an ice block. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the player has to shake the Wii remote to break free.

History[]

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Ice Bros

The Mario Crew up against the Ice Bros. in their lair.

Ice Bros. are first seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In this game, they are commonly found in levels of World 3. They behave similarly to the other bros. except they toss Iceballs, similar to Ice Mario under the effects of an Ice Flower. This can make them very dangerous enemies as if they manage to hit the plumbers with one of their iceballs, not only will they power-down, they will also be frozen for a few seconds leaving them vulnerable to enemies. They will then have to shake the Wii Remote in order to get free. Whilst bothersome, they can also be a help as the Ice Bros'. iceballs can also freeze other enemies as well making dealing with them slightly less tedious, additionally, Yoshi can also swallow an Ice Bro's iceballs and spit them at other enemies to freeze them. Ice Bros. are commonly found in underground caves or snow/ice-themed areas. They can be eliminated with stomps or the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman. Ironically, the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit still work against them and can freeze them just the same, Ice Bros. are also seen in World 3's Enemy Course.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[]

Paper Ice Bro

Ice Bros. appear in Paper Mario: Sticker Star appearing in Snow Rise, Ice Flow, Whiteout Valley, Rugged Road (at the beginning after you freeze the area), Bowser Jr.'s Flotilla, and Bowser's Sky Castle. In battle, they attack by throwing their Ice Balls at you, their attacks have the same timing as their comrades so blocking them shouldn't be too much of an issue, and in the opposite manner to Fire Bros, they take double damage from fire-based attacks and are immune to all ice-based attacks. Additionally, they also take 2 less damage from regular attacks (apart from Things due to their piercing effect) due to their Defense thereby making them immune to the Hopslipper sticker. They can also damage you in the overworld and briefly freeze you, their iceballs can be tough to dodge as well so it is highly recommended you take out any Ice Bros. upon sight of one.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Ice Bros. also appear in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. In these games, they are semi-common enemies mainly found in levels of Frosted Glacier but sometimes appearing in other levels as well. They appear in levels such as Icicle Caverns, All Aboard!, and Frozen Fuzzies, in the latter level, their enemy-freezing methods are the main theme of that level as they are seen freezing many Fuzzies and Mega Fuzzies. They behave as they did previously by tossing iceballs around (which can freeze you or any nearby enemies), and they can be defeated once again with stomps or the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman and just as before, the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit still work against them and can freeze them. A Piranha Plant variety similar to the Ice Bro. called the Venus Ice Trap also appears in this game.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[]

Ice Bro

Ice Bros. make another appearance in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. In this game, they are water-attribute enemies. In battle, in addition to attacking normally, they may occasionally use Water Change to cause damage and change any Fire Orbs into Water Orbs, they can also use Frenzied Blows, this attack is dangerous as it can deal a large amount of damage. When defeated, they may randomly drop Light Blocks of Hammer Bros., while destroying them with 10+ Combo attacks guarantees they will drop Ice Flowers. Being Water enemies, they take extra damage from Wood-based attacks and less from Fire-based damage.

As teammates, Ice Bros have an HP rating of 4/6, an ATK rating of 5/6, and a RCV rating of 2/6. Their Water Change Skill is identical to the enemy skill, and their Awoken Skill Recovery Boost increases the amount of HP healed when clearing Heart Orbs. Ice Bros tend to use use Star Coins and Grand Star Coins to raise their Skill Levels. The player can create an Ice Bro by using five Ice Flowers to transform a Hammer Bro. Teammates may occasionally gain ATK bonuses from powerless Ice Bros.

Paper Mario: Color Splash[]

Ice Bros. reappear in Paper Mario: Color Splash behaving in the exact same way as they did in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. They are mainly found in the Parallel versions of Fortune Island and the surrounding Islands such as Lighthouse Island, they behave identically to how they did previously in battle and outside of battle, they once again toss iceballs however this time, they are no longer immune to ice-based Stickers such as the Ice Flower and can take damge from them. An Ice Bro. can also be seen in Redpepper Volcano where he is being trained by a Snifit, he tries to nag him to let him fight Mario after his Fire Bro. comrades are defeated and tries to prove himself by tossing an Iceball only for it to miss and humiliate himself. Ice Bros. are also seen in Black Bowser's Castle.

Ice Bros. are seen again in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. In this game, they are seen in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey side story as enemies and recruitable allies. They are once again classed as ranged troopers and attack by tossing iceballs at any foes. They are once again strong against Fire Bros. but weak against Fly Guys and Parabones.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[]

Ice Bro

Several Ice Bros. seen in battle.

Ice Bros. appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, in this game, they appear in the new Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser side story as enemies and recruitable allies, they are classed as ranged troopers and attack by tossing iceballs at their enemies. They are first seen in the level Ice Guys Finish Last. They are strong against Fire Bros. but weak against Fly Guys, deploying them when going up against heaps of flying enemies is a good strategy.

Dr. Mario World[]

In Dr. Mario World, Ice Bros. will appear in the background of World 10 after it's completion.

Origami Ice Bro

An Origami Ice Bro.

Ice Bros. are seen yet again in Paper Mario: The Origami King, alongside the Origami Ice Bros. which appear as enemies. In battle, an Ice Bro. will do one of two attacks, it will either attack using Ice Throw, which utilizes their usual behavior of throwing ice balls, or the dangerous Super Bro Throw. The latter involves the Ice Bro. throwing another enemy at Mario, which sacrifices the thrown enemy. Ice Bros. also use their own variant of Super Bro Throw, known as Cold Bro Throw. Before throwing its ally, the Ice Bro covers it in a snowball to drop onto Mario, with the ally suffering the same fate as the original variant of the move.
