Fire Chomp, or Keronpa as they are known in Japan, are chainless Chain Chomps similar to Amps. Fire Chomps first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and made only two future appearances, both in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

Appearances

Super Mario Bros. 3

In Super Mario Bros. 3, these enemies have four fireballs each, and when they're all fired, it will explode, damaging everyone in the blast radius. Mario can defeat the Fire Chomp by way of using a Starman or the Raccoon Suit.

New Super Mario Bros.

In New Super Mario Bros., they only appear in World 7-1. Unlike in Super Mario Bros. 3, they are defeated by Mario or Luigi by way of simply jumping on them. However, this does not truly defeat them as they will reappear after a few seconds. A Starman or Mega Mushroom is also effective against Fire Chomps.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Fire Chomps in New Super Mario Bros. Wii behave very similarly to those in New Super Mario Bros. These enemies are defeated by stomping on their head before they spit fire. In addition to simply jumping, Mario or Luigi may acquire a Starman to defeat the enemies.

Super Mario 64 DS

Since the Kuromame does not appear in the DS remake of Super Mario 64, this enemy was replaced by the Fire Chomp. It can only be defeated by Yoshi's tongue. When Yoshi eats it, the players must press the 'Spit' button to breathe fire. By doing so, the Fire Chomp will not respawn.
