Paper Mario Mario & Luigi

Dark Boos are a variant of Boo which only appear in a few Mario role-playing games. They first appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Dark Boos have the base appearance of a Boo, except with a purple body, a blue mouth, and yellow eyes.

Behavior[]

They are stronger versions of Boos in both Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, but in Super Paper Mario, their AI is entirely different from regular Boos. Super Paper Mario also features a stronger, darker variant named Dark Dark Boo. Apart from defeating enemies by knocking, it also has an ability to steal one of their items. As soon as the enemies are attacked by a Dark Boo, their items get taken away entirely.

In Paper Mario series[]

Dark Boos are encountered in the Poshley Sanctum in the painting. There are numerous of Dark Boos in this area where they seem to be guarding the seventh Crystal Star. Dark Boos can also be encountered in the Pit of 100 Trials on the lower floors of the area.

Super Paper Mario[]

Dark Boos are encountered on Underwhere Road where they are found in numerous of rooms. They often move around by flipping in and out of dimensions and attacking once they get close. They are rather bothersome enemies that are best left to be ignored. There are darker versions of these enemies called Dark Dark Boos found in the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials.

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[]

Dark Boos are encountered in the Gritzy Caves, they are faster and stronger than generic Boos and can actually steal items if their attacks are successful and if left alone for too long will proceed to run from battle. This is the only game outside the Paper Mario series in which Dark Boos appear.
