Paper Mario
For the microgame in WarioWare Gold, see Close Call (microgame).

"When Mario's in Danger, enemies sometimes fail to attack."
—Description

Close Call is a recurring badge in the Paper Mario series. It first appears in Paper Mario and returns in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The Close Call badge gives the same effect to Mario in both games.

This badge is part of the "Lucky" badge series, meaning that during battle, Mario may be lucky during an opponent's attack, causing the attack to automatically miss. Since this badge is the weakest version in the set, it only works occasionally while Mario is in danger.

Location[]

Paper Mario[]

In Paper Mario, the Close Call is found in the beginning of the game in a Red Question Block located near the beginning of Goomba Road. After striking the block, the badge is released from the block. This is the second badge Mario collects on his adventure. This badge requires a single Badge Point to be worn by Mario.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario can acquire multiples of this badge. The first Close Call badge that Mario finds will probably be in a Question Block on the way into Petal Meadows. Opening the block will, like in Paper Mario, make the badge pop out and Mario can grab the badge. Other copies of the badge can occasionally be found all over, carried by Goombas and other weaker enemies. Using Ms. Mowz's Steal ability, she can steal badges and items held by foes. After the fight, sometimes items held by enemies can be dropped and badges can be given. A partner-only variant of the badge named Close Call P also exists.
