Rainbow Ride from Super Mario 64 is a good example of a sky-themed stage.

Stages, levels, or locations with a sky theme are areas that take place in the sky. This is one of the many reoccurring themes in the Mario franchise.

Other Traits and Features[]

Sky-themed stages take place high in the sky, usually above the clouds. This makes bottomless pits one of the most common hazards in these stages and it is very easy to fall into one, resulting in a lost life. Paratroopas are very common enemies in sky-themed stages as they can fly in place, usually moving vertically or horizontally.

Due to the unique nature of sky-themed stages, they are usually not combined with any other themes. Bowser's Castle is commonly lifted into the sky but is not often classified as a sky-themed stage. A good example of this is in Paper Mario.
