The Forest Maze from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a good example of a forest-themed stage.

Stages, levels, or locations with a forest theme are areas usually take place in the forest. Stages featuring jungles or rainforests are also considered forest-themed stages.

Other Traits and Features[]

One of the main traits of forest-themed stages is that the gimmick usually involves moving through and onto trees. Some stages also involve climbing up vines, among other things. Due to the nature of forest themed stages, hidden areas are usually concealed under leaves and such.

Forest-themed stages tend to have a variety of enemies. In the Paper Mario games, the most common enemies in forest-themed stages are Fuzzies and Piranha Plants. There are also a variety of plant-based enemies that lurk within forests.

One of the main hazards of forest-themed stages are traps concealed within leaves. These can be avoided by spotting them before they fully reveal themselves. Another notable hazard that has featured in forest-themed stages since New Super Mario Bros. is poison goop that leads to instant death when it touched. This is first seen in World 4 of New Super Mario Bros. and reoccurs in more recent Mario games, such as Somnom Woods in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and most levels in World 3 of Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Due to their isolated nature, forest-themed stages rarely feature elements from other stages at the same time. However, forest-themed stages are sometimes associated with haunted-themed stages.
