Mario Party

Cardiators is a luck-based duel minigame in Mario Party 8.

Opening[]

The mini-game takes place in a giant Romanesque Colosseum where the audience is filled with Shy Guys, Goombas, and Koopas. Each of the two players comes out from one of the winds of the stadium. When they both reach the center, cards are drawn to see who goes first.

Gameplay[]

Opponents take turns picking cards from a large table. Once a card is drawn, the corresponding enemy appears behind the attacker and attacks the opponent. Whoever of the two characters will win is entirely determined by the cards chosen. Each character has a health bar consisting of 20 health points, and whoever reduces the other's health down to zero is the winner.

Cards[]

Each card has a different enemy that it summons thus each does a different number of damage (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 12 points of damage). The best card is the "12" (which has the Chain Chomp), while the worst is "1" (which has the Penguin) or "2" (which is the Ukiki).

Card Image Description Damage
One Penguin The worst card. One Penguin slides into the enemy player. 1
One Ukiki One Ukiki charges at the opposing player. Like the "1" (which has the Penguin) this is also the worst card. 2
Bob-Omb A Bob-Omb appears, drops into the player's hands, and explodes into their face. 5
Three Ukikis Three Ukiki's team up and attack the opposing player. (This is similar to "2" as it has Ukikis. However, there are three Ukikis instead of one.) 6
Seven Penguins Seven Penguins slide into the opposing player. (This is similar to "1" as it has Penguins. However, the "7" --unlike the "1"-- has seven Penguins instead of one.) 7
Wiggler An angered Wiggler jumps out from behind the attack and runs over the opposing player. 8
Three Bullet Bills Three Bullet Bills are fired from behind the attacker. They ram into the opposing player. 9
Thwomp The second to powerful card. A Thwomp appears, drops from the ceiling, and crushes the opposing player. 10
Chain Chomp The most powerful card. A Chain Chomp appears and flings the player into the air. 12

Etymology[]

The minigame's name is a portmanteau of "gladiators" and "card."
