Mario & Luigi

The Boo-ray Machine is an object in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey.

Description[]

The Boo-ray Machine is a machine that Yikk built before his death. It resembles a Boo and has a light-blue LED screen on the front that gives Boo-like facial expressions. The Boo-ray Machine projects a light that goes through one's body and displays a view of their x-ray against the wall. In the original game, the Boo-ray Machine can be activated by having Bowser punch a red button on the back of the machine, but in the remake, the machine is instead activated by standing on a platform behind it.

The machine's name is a pun on "x-ray machine," but with Boo substituting for the "X" in the first word.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story[]

When Bowser first finds the Boo-ray Machine, Yikk specifically explains to him that the light makes the insides of one's body visible, and that it shows Boo transparency waves, giving off light and other special properties.

The Boo-ray Machine is necessary for Mario and Luigi to explore further into the Energy Hold. If Bowser keeps the Boo-ray Machine activated, Mario and Luigi can possibly find hidden blocks somewhere, but if Bowser deactivates it, several Boo-like blocks may appear as platforms.
