Mario & Luigi

Drill Bros. is a recurring move in the Mario & Luigi series. It first appears in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time with the name Baby Drill, as it is only usable by Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. It later returns in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey as one of Mario and Luigi's moves.

In Mario & Luigi series[]

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[]

Baby Drill is learned by Baby Mario and Baby Luigi in Vim Factory shortly after they receive their hammers from the L33t Hamm3r Broz.. Drill Bros. allows the babies to burrow underground, which can allow them to slip through certain tight spaces. However, Baby Drill cannot dig through hard materials like metal. If the babies surface while underneath a spot marked with an "X," they can receive a bean. In the field map, if the babies emerge from under an enemy, it gets launched into the air and falls back down stunned, which can potentially allow for a better First Strike.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[]

Drill Bros. is learned by Mario and Luigi at the Energy Hold. Here, when the Mario Bros. spin into a drill-like bone inside the Energy Hold, they find a very small space. Mario and Luigi then get the idea to drill into the ground using their hammers, therefore learning Drill Bros. and being able to use it for the rest of their journey.

Drill Bros. allows the Mario Bros. to either traverse under small and tight areas that not even Mini-Mario can travel through, activate certain parts inside Bowser's body, and dig out beans. Outside of Bowser's body, the location of a bean is represented with an "X," like in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, but in Bowser's body, the location of a bean is indicated by sparkling spots. Drill Bros. can also be used to collect Mushroom Balls in Toad Town Mall, and the Drill Bros. move later has to be used in the Lumbar Nook to alleviate the pain in Bowser's back.
