Mario & Luigi

Baby Cakes is a move in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.

Description[]

When using Baby Cakes, Mario and Luigi, in Bros. Ball form, roll over Baby Mario and Baby Luigi respectively, changing the babies into a disc shape. While Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are under the effect of Baby Cakes, they can ride air currents and fit into very thin passages. The effect of Baby Cakes is temporary, so it wears off after a while. However, if Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are either in a passage which they can only enter while flattened or in an air current, they cannot grow bigger. The babies can end the effect of Baby Cakes prematurely by touching a certain object, such as spikes or a 4-Person Panel. While flattened, Baby Mario cannot use his hammer, and likewise, Baby Luigi cannot use the Baby Drill. Mario or Luigi can neither provide a piggyback nor do a Baby Spin while Baby Cakes is in effect.

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[]

Baby Cakes is taught by Toadsworth the Younger after he and Toadsworth teach the Baby Spin move, which itself is taught after the Mario Bros. clear the Gritzy Caves but before they access Thwomp Volcano. As a demonstration, the Toadsworths use Baby Cakes on Baby Peach, flattening her, although the wind ends up blowing Baby Peach to a cave in the castle. Toadsworth the Younger requests the Mario Bros. to rescue Baby Peach, also doubling as an opportunity to use both Baby Cakes and Baby Spin along the way.
